Flat Iron Temperature Guide: Use Enough Heat, Not Maximum Heat
Choose a safer starting temperature based on hair texture, condition and styling goal.
Quick note: This guide is educational and does not replace advice from a dermatologist, physician or licensed cosmetology professional.
Fine or fragile hair
Start around 250–300°F and use one controlled pass. Higher heat is rarely the fastest route when hair is delicate.
Medium or healthy hair
Many users find 300–350°F effective. Use a heat protectant and work with fully dry, detangled sections.
Coarse or resistant hair
Begin around 350°F and increase only when necessary. Smaller sections often improve results more than extreme heat.
Technique matters as much as temperature
Move steadily, avoid repeated passes and clean plates regularly so residue does not create drag.
Shop with a checklist
Compare the ingredient list or technical specifications, read the manufacturer instructions and confirm that the product suits your routine. Avoid making a purchase based only on popularity.
